Bournemouth LEA (Cluster Project)
Bournemouth Borough Council is a new unitary authority. Its education service is developing diagnostic skills in science, matching practical experiences to pupils' current understanding, helping pupils appreciate relationships via investigative work. Fifteen primary schools are involved in this cluster which aims to draw on the expertise of Liverpool John Moores University and Leeds University members of the CLIS and SPACE teams the LJMU as the basis of its approach.
Programme
A core of leading teachers of science will offer in-class support to the cluster schools. The programme intends to offer a broad range of relevant elements with opportunities to:
- celebrate the growth in confidence and expertise
- share all elements of training and assessment and disseminate it widely
- for the science co-ordinator to lead a training day for staff and governors
As a principal outcome the programme should enable all teachers of science to base their teaching on what the pupils already know and on a good personal understanding of science.
