AstraZeneca Science Teaching Trust - Effective Display CPD Unit
introduction
This updated version of Effective Science Displays is a Professional Development Unit (PDU) which was originally produced by Martin Bruand and Roy Phipps.
This unit has been re-written by Rosemary Feasey in collaboration with:
- Eva Fatherley - Priory Primary School, North Tyneside
- Susan Harrison - Cheveley Primary School, Durham
- Linda James - Whitehouse Primary School, Stockton-on-Tees
- Diane Murray - Broadway East First School, Newcastle-upon-Tyne
- TTS
During the workshop you will be able to hear Rosemary explain the thinking behind the characteristics that make science displays effective.
Purpose
The purpose of this CPD unit is to provide you with an opportunity to compare Rosemary's and the teachers' ideas with your own. The unit concentrates on how displays and their construction can support primary science teaching and become part of the learning process for children. To achieve its purpose, the unit asks you to review your practice and then to consider a series of key questions. The key questions are supported by photographic stills. The idea is that these will help you increase your knowledge and understanding about what helps to make science displays effective.
What to do
The unit can be used online or stored on your hard drive for later use. If you wish to download it onto your hard drive then click on the off-line option and follow the on-screen instructions. The unit could be used to support the development of effective displays in science in relation to your own practice, whole school CPD or to support teaching assistants and student teachers.
Self-review
It is important that you carry out a short self-review process before you undertake the CPD unit. If you intend to use the resource pack, you may find it useful to ask your delegates to do this self-review too. You will find that the workshop is self-explanatory, simply use the index to view any page.
